Sunderland appoint Sam Allardyce as new manager on two-year deal

Sunderland have appointed Sam Allardyce as manager on a two-year contract.

Dick Advocaat quit Sunderland on Sunday with the Black Cats second-bottom of the Premier League and winless in their opening eight games.

Allardyce, 60, has been out of management since he left West Ham at the end of last season.

"Of course it's a challenging job. But I hope to be able to help to bring the stability and success that everyone wants," Allardyce said.

"I'm looking forward to working with the players and of course I will be relying on the help of the Sunderland supporters."

Allardyce had a spell at Sunderland as a player between 1980 and 1981 and becomes the first person to manage both the Black Cats and rivals Newcastle.

Is there not a rule of thumb that if a team fails to win any of their first ten games they go down? Not sure if anyone has stayed up after not winning a single game in ten. Sunderland only two away from that milestone.

Likewise if he keeps them up he definitely deserves credit. I think his methods are pretty basic and limited, but they have worked in the past. Must admit I'm quite interested to see if he can do it.

Can't believe he's blaming not getting the England job on a lack of PowerPoint capability at the FA.

Now, the FA are clearly shit at appointing managers but that is an absolute fucking great excuse for not getting the job. You wouldn't even get away with that at school.

The man is a gonad.

If none of the players would admit that, why is he then putting words in their mouths?

The Sunderland Echo now saying three possibilities are being talked about as becoming his assistant. Steve Round, Neil McDonald and Sammy Lee are the latest rumours. Fatty wants to get the new man in for the next match.

none of the players would admit it to him at the time, but im sure they understood what it felt like being a fan and having to watch his backward, negative, dogshit football approach.
